ASSIGNMENT
The Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), formerly Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB), was established through the Tourism and Hospitality Act No.13 of 2015 after the repealing of Zambia Tourism Board Act No.24 of 2007. The 2015 Act mandates ZTA to effectively market and promote Zambia as a tourism and travel destination of choice and to regulate the tourism industry.
In addition to its marketing function, the Zambia Tourism Agency is responsible for the issuance of licenses to all tourism enterprises. Under the new act, ZTA has been empowered to license tourism enterprises, set standards and carry out inspections, and to ensure conformity to minimum set standards. This is in addition to the old function of promotion and marketing Zambia’s tourism products. The Zambian Tourism Sector has not been performing according to its potential. The total number of tourist arrivals within the SADC region in 2015 was 21,594,648. The top 5 tourist destinations in the Region were South Africa with (8,903,773); Zimbabwe, (2, 423,280); Botswana (1,913,981); Mozambique (1,633,935) and Seychelles (1,387,773). Zambia recorded only 946,969 Tourists in the same period (Ministry of Tourism, 2015). Further the contribution of the tourism industry to GDP has relatively remained low at 3.1% (ZDA report 2014). From the above statistics, it’s very clear that despite having enormous potential, Zambia has not benefited from its tourism sector. Using relevant E-BUSINESS FRAMEWORKS,analyse the challenges facing the Tourism Sector and develop a WORKABLE E-BUSINESS STRATEGY to help lift the sector from its current undesirable state.
